Luck of the Irish? Blarney!

Author: Tracey S Watson

Source: ezinearticles.com

When my daughter graduated from High School, I decided to take her on a mother-daughter trip before she went on to bigger things; college, work, home and social demands, and decreased ability to take time off for two weeks, ireland travel advice , . She had done well in High School, kept her grades up, been a good "citizen", and though we had taken a foreign trip the summer before with our church, it was definitely a working trip. I wanted to reward all of her hard work and honesty, and spend good, quality, and fun time with her. We sat down and decided, ireland travel advice , together where we would like to go - and Ireland was on the top of the list, ireland travel advice , . Rolling green hills, friendly faces, and adorable accents - we were ready for the happy-go-lucky Irish.

We flew out of Phoenix, two hours from our home in Tucson. It was an early, ireland travel advice , flight, so we spent the night at a hotel in Phoenix near the airport where they kept your car while you were away. We went out to dinner and did a little "last minute" shopping at the mall. I don't know how it happened, but somehow the car keys got lost at the mall. After two hours of looking to no avail, we finally gave up and my parents drove two hours with my spare set (they are saints). I should have known this was a premonition of things to come. We ended up with little sleep, but thrilled for our adventure to come.

The next glitch came when the flight was delayed by an hour. When they finally let us on the plane, we sat on the runway for half an hour, then we were told to get off. Can they do that? Yep, they can. We, ireland travel advice , were advised to go to the airline counter to be rescheduled. So, all the people from the plane, ireland travel advice , were quickly scurrying to the counter. We were fifth in line (long legs have an advantage here). It still took an hour to get to first in line. She had to re-route us through Chicago, then to London (with a 6 hour layover), then on to Ireland - total time: 25 hours. This was starting to feel very unlucky. I asked the reservation person if our baggage would follow us correctly. She reassured us that it was all computerized, ireland travel advice , and not to worry. To make this long 25 hour part of the story shorter, I will summarize it: cold airports, long lines at each airport for re-checking in, passport checks, and major fatigue. We finally got to our destination and, I am sure you guessed it - no baggage. By the way, my luggage didn't show up for 5 days, my daughter's for 11 (out of 14) days. We had to call and check in every day. We had no, ireland travel advice ,, ireland travel advice , clothing, very few toiletries or personal items, and no warm gear for the rainy Irish skies.

We had purchased a package deal that included vouchers for bed and breakfasts for each day. The travel agency said that it was not difficult to find places that accepted these vouchers; there were literally "thousands of B&B's in Ireland, and most of them accept vouchers". Generally, this is not a true statement, maybe one third of them do, and it is best to make reservations ahead of time. We did not have reservations either, because we wanted to roam the countryside and stop when the mood hit. The travel agency made it sound like this was all easy and feasible. I will say the places that we did stay were wonderful. But, we spent so much time trying to find clothing and shelter that we just didn't get to relax and enjoy the atmosphere like we should have.

When I finally did get my bag, it was pretty well destroyed. They found my daughter's bag in New York (no, we never went through New York). I shared all my clothing and makeup with my daughter (luckily, we are the same size). Being girls, we had brought a curling iron and a converter. It blew up (I am not kidding, with smoke, sparks and all). Fortunately, I have natural wave to my hair, and the humidity did all sorts of fabulous things to it. I felt like I fit right in with my wavy, red hair. My daughter, on the other hand, was not feeling the love with her hairstyle.

We had one mishap after another, and really had moments where we wondered what all the hype was about with the "Luck O' the Irish". But, all things said and done, it was probably THE most beautiful place, ireland travel advice , I have ever seen. The Irish people are warm and caring, and very relaxed about life. They went out of their way to give directions and advice, tell stories, and were just wonderful in every way. We spent one night in a castle that was magical. And, given the opportunity, I would go back in a second; just, ireland travel advice , hoping that all my bad luck was used up! Anyone that has the opportunity to go to Ireland, GO. Just make sure that you bring a carry-on that has enough clothes for a few days, and bring your own luck!

Croatia Gulet - 3 Things They Don't Want You to Know

Author: Adriano Cruist

Source: ezinearticles.com

If you have decided to go on gulet cruising, congratulations - it will probably be one of the most joyful cruises you ever took.

I am booking one week each summer with my family. I've tried both Turkey coast and Adriatic one. Adriatic, turkey travel advice , sea is by far more beautiful... magnificent, turkey travel advice , .

I'll share with you some tips you should know when preparing for your blue voyage.

1) Take only your closest friends, turkey travel advice , . The Gulet is small environment where you'll spend your week or two. If you are on that small space with people you don't like or with troubleseekers, it can ruin your whole vacation. I know. We have been once with our friends and their friends. One guy was such a pain that he has almost ruined our entire vacation.

2) As always on cruising, there is a captain. It is person of authority and command when you are on sea. Although he is there to make your cruise joyful, while traveling, you must listen to captain's, turkey travel advice , commands. The reason for that is mostly your safety and safety of the yacht itself. As always, there could be a bad whether and captain usually knows the forecast and when you should stay in the marine and when it is good to go. Forcing your captain to set sails and go to another destination when a bad whether is forecast could cause you unpleasant time with big waves. If you are in Adriatic sea and with skillful captain, it isn't dangerous, but it could look scary if you haven't experienced bad weather on the sea before.

3) Sex in the cabins. Well, as it is attractive and must-have experience on such voyages, be forewarned. If you are loud at all, it will be heard by all. Gulet is a wooden boat and you are on the water... it transfers sound like crazy. The same advice applies for talking about someone behind his back. Extra careful.

These are my three tips you usually won't find in brochures and other resources, but are absolute must-know for pleasant and joyful vacation.

By the way... if you are considering a gulet cruise in Croatia, I, turkey travel advice , absolutely recommend it. It is relaxing, tasteful experience you'll never forget.

No 2 - The Bibbulmun Track. This track is the longest walking trail in Western Australia, winding its way over 900km from the foothills of Perth through Jarrah and Karri Forests to the rugged coastline of Albany.

As a holiday trek you can join at certain landmarks and walk sections - but I have it on my list of 'lifetime' challenges. I'm hoping that I still have enough energy, by the time I am old enough to have enough time!!

No 3 - The Larapinta Trail is my 3rd favourite Australia walking trail and one of the finest walks in Australia. The trail passes through the high ridgelines of the West MacDonnell Ranges, the vast flood plains and the razorback rocky outcrops. With a final destination of Alice Springs, it's a great way to spend 6-7 days of walking, followed by a few days resting up and exploring Alice Springs.

Obviously given the sheer magnitude of Australia, there are an endless amount of walks and tracks, but much of the walking is hard going either because of the terrain or the weather (or both). My advice is to make plenty of time, plan it well, get fit and travel with a local expert or company - when walking in some of these areas you really do need that level of support.

I will be posting a few more of my top 3 travel experiences and look forward to reading more.

Should You Book Charter Or Schedule?

Author: Lee Fullman

Source: articleage.com

Charter
Charter flights are there for a particular purpose - to take holiday makers to a resort for their holiday and bring them back again. You'll have to fit in with that schedule, though there is more flexibility on routes where there are frequent, travel advice , flights to the destination.
Such flights are organised by tour operators (such as, travel advice , Monarch and First Choice) to supply transport for package holidays to mainly Mediterranean destinations, the most popular of which, travel advice , are Tenerife, Alicante, Fuerteventura, Paphos, Lanzarote and Faro.
Fares tend to vary depending on supply and demand. To keep costs to a, travel advice , minimum,, travel advice , tour operators will always try to fill their aircraft and will discount to the extent of selling below cost to fill their allocations. Prices can be extremely high at certain times, travel advice , of the year when, travel advice , many people want or need to travel like during school holidays, bank holidays and Christmas time.
The rules for charter flights are very strict. Once booked they cannot be changed or cancelled without a charge of up to 100 per cent of the ticket value. Within the UK, Manchester, Gatwick and to a certain extent Luton airport are the main bases for charter flights. If you want a long stay, you will need a scheduled airline or two one-way tickets.
Keep these few helpful tips in mind when looking for the best package holiday with a charter flight.
Leave it to the last minute. A day or two before the flight, the price of spare seats can drop.
Do some research. Gate 14 provides a wealth of resources on airlines and flight discounts.
Check which airport you are flying into. Charter flights often fly into airports with fewer facilities and that may be out of the way, but because they are smaller you'll avoid the hassles of a large crowded, noisy airport and queues tend to be far shorter.
Find out what is included in the price of a air ticket. It is worth checking the amount of luggage you can check in too.
Schedule Flights
Scheduled airlines are more recognisable. They are the major players such as British Airways, Air France, United Airlines and the low-costs such as easyJet and German Wings. To get a cheap flight with a scheduled airline the advice below will help cut down on costs.
Generally speaking you will get a cheaper fare by booking early. There is a 'golden' time which you should aim for when booking your tickets - and it's not last minute! This window in time will give you the lowest air fare rate. Miss it and it could cost you dearly.
Shop around for the best deal. One company will never always have the cheapest price all the time. Be patient while you are searching. It'll be worth it.
Be flexible with your flight times. Try departing on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday rather than at weekends.
Go for early morning or late evening flights, but make sure you will be able to get to the airport and from the airport cheaply and reliably. Last thing you want is to be stranded because there are no taxis or local transport.
Take a look at Gate 14, where you'll, travel advice , find a no-frills airline directory. To learn money, travel advice , saving, travel advice , techniques when travelling Gate 14 also offers, travel advice , publications and reports from various sources that anyone can use, no matter which part of the world you live in.

Amazing Vacations With Car Hire In Europe

Author: Doug Smith -

Source: articledashboard.com

Car hire in Europe can be a unique and unforgettable way for Americans to become acquainted with the grandeur and history of Europe. If you are not familiar with the term "car hire," it simply means car rental or renting a car. Seeing ancient architecture, picturesque villas, vibrant vineyards, and majestic mountains from the cockpit of a convertible is an exhilarating experience. Here are some tips and advice for maximizing the fun of your car hire in Europe.

When planning your European vacation, consider a car hire in your destination country rather than transportation by train or bus. Make your reservations far in advance, print all travel and rental confirmations, and take them with you. Much of the "paperwork" can now be done online.

Bring your normal driver's license with you, and all your insurance information. Just like the car rental companies in your own country, the ones in Europe need proof that you are an eligible and responsible driver. Find, travel insurance advice , out what other documentation, if any, you will need for a car hire in your European destination country.

Determine in advance, travel insurance advice , what make and model of car you will be getting, and whether you can drive it! If you can't drive a stick shift or manual transmission car, this may limit your vehicle choices. Ask about the price, availability, and types of fuel. You may end up with a Dodge that runs on diesel rather than a Renault that runs on regular.

Always take the supplemental insurance offered by the car hire company. A car accident is stressful enough at home, with the police, the insurance company, and the other driver. Imagine what a nightmare an accident would be when you are 3,000 miles from home and don't even speak the language.

Finally, be prepared for surprises. If you're an American who has never traveled abroad, trying to drive in a country that drives on the opposite side of the road will probably present some difficulty. Likewise, traffic circles may throw you for a loop if they are new to you. And don't, travel insurance advice , attempt the German Autobahn on your first day. Take some time to learn the local German driving customs, especially those concerning merging and passing other cars. And don't forget to load up on the supplemental insurance.

A car hire in Europe will be a challenging but fun vacation you will never forget. Do your research,, travel insurance advice , learn the customs, and plan your route, travel insurance advice , . It will be a drive in the country that will last a lifetime.

Balloon Ride Business On The Up

Author: Stephen Turner

Source: articleage.com

Ten years ago it was all very different in the world of ballooning. You could expect to travel some considerable distance to find a balloon ride operator to take you into the air for a hot air balloon ride. You might even have to leave your own country. If you were lucky, there would be a small number of balloon ride operators somewhere near you, and if you were unlucky, there would be none.
The good news is that all that has changed in the balloon ride business. These days a balloon ride can be had pretty much wherever you wish: Brazil, Russia, Chile, Surrey, South Africa, Spain, Gloucestershire, Namibia, Costa Rica, Kenya, Hertfordshire and,, costa rica travel advice , let us not forget, little old Australia and the United States of America.
That I am able to throw a few counties in England into my list of exciting ballooning locations from around the world is a sign of high times for the balloon ride business in the United Kingdom. It's good news for any one like me who loves the idea of taking a balloon ride in Kenya, but is too poor of time and money to book the flight out there.
Australians, costa rica travel advice , and Americans, blessed as they are in their respective countries with numerous stunning locations that are ideal for balloon rides, might legitimately say that the United Kingdom is not blessed with the most ideal of flying conditions for a balloon, costa rica travel advice , ride. We Brits might sigh and agree that (even if we do get up in the air) our balloon ride will just disappear into a constitutionally guaranteed grey sky, where the best sight from our basket will be a steaming cup of tea. But the truth is rather brighter. Most flights take place early in the morning, when the weather is calmer, and if you get up into the air, it's because the conditions are right, costa rica travel advice , for flight, and so you will get a great view. I have been taking photographs from way up there for ten years, and my photo albums speak of the ballooning beauty that is Great Britain.
Of course the weather can disappoint. Too much wind, or the wrong type of wind, will, costa rica travel advice , keep you on the ground, ruining your day. But there is usually another one following it, so there is time to try again.
There are over a hundred commercial balloon ride operators in the United Kingdom just waiting to get you into the air. The statistics are impressive: there were around 80,000 balloon ride passengers in the United Kingdom last year. And if you don't trust the statistics, trust the pilots. Many of our pilots are highly experienced Australian and American pilots, and if the flying or the business were poor, they would not be here.
So why not make yourself one of the 80,000? Bring your friends, the family, who ever you want. It really is jaw-droppingly beautiful up there. It's another world and you just do not want to come down. But with business the way it is, you don't have to, costa rica travel advice , for long.

How To Pack For Cruise Travel

Author: Mary Hanna

Source: articleage.com

You, advice travel europe children , know what you want to pack as far as your wardrobe for your cruise vacation, but here are the little essentials that you might not think about.
One very important thing to pack is a Wall Mount Power Outlet with 3 Outlets. Electrical Outlets in the cruise cabins are very stingy and if you want to dry your hair while your curlers are heating up you will have a problem.
When I pack, I put all of my clothes in Dry Cleaners plastic bags. These will keep your clothes from wrinkling. Pack anything that can spill in zip lock bags. An international power converter and a currency converter will be needed for European Cruises. Some people pack a night light for the bathroom. I have found if you leave the bathroom light on and close the door it is sufficient to guide you there in the middle of the night.
We pack a portable CD player with 20 CD's and an alarm clock. We pack "two way" radios so we can communicate when we are in different parts of the ship. I like to sleep in when we go to the Caribbean and John likes to get up and have breakfast. He quietly lets himself out of the cabin,, advice travel europe children , and when I get up I call him to let him know its "safe" to come back to the room.
In colder climates you will need a jacket and some long sleeve shirts. I always pack sturdy hiking boots if we go to Europe, advice travel europe children , or Alaska. (Most of the time I wear them on the airplane with slacks since they take up so much room in the suitcase). They come in very handy when touring Europe's sometimes centuries old cobblestone streets. When you go to Europe you will probably visit churches, and other religious buildings and proper attire must be worn-no sleeveless tops, no shorts and in some places a head covering. In Thailand it was necessary to remove our shoes before entering their holy places. You are in some else's country and must abide by their rules. No matter where you are headed remember that cabins are small and have little closets and drawers. This is an important fact to know when you are packing.
Bring all of your toiletries, film, in-cabin wine, lotions, medications and dental care products from home. They will be quite pricey on the ship. If you have an on going medical problem have your doctor write a brief medical history, advice travel europe children , so you can supply it to the ships doctor if a problem should arise. You should also pack things like, Alka Seltzer, constipation relief, cough drops, aspirin and band aids. Make up a little first aid kit that suits your needs. Don't, advice travel europe children , laugh, you will probably be trying new foods, eating more than usual, and you never know how you will react. Those items mentioned above are expensive on the ship.
A few things that are handy are clothes pins for weighing down the shower curtain (the showers are small and the curtain will stick to you when your wet. This really gives me the creeps). A highlighter is great for highlighting the activities on your daily cruise sheet. The night before highlight, advice travel europe children , the events you want to participate in and all you have to do is glance at the sheet to know where you want to be and when. Tell your room steward on the first day to leave you two daily cruise sheets so each of you will have one. This way if one of you wants to go to the wine tasting and the other wants to join in the art auction you both know where and when. Then when it's over, call each other on the two way radios and meet up for a drink or lunch or whatever. Another valuable little item is "post it notes" if you don't have the two way radios. Just write on the post it where you are going and at what time and then stick on the outside of the cabin door. Presto your traveling partner knows where you are and when to expect you back. This is great for parents traveling with children.
Cruise Tip: Pack business cards with your email address, advice travel europe children , on them. You meet all kinds of interesting people that you will want to stay in touch with. Some of our best friends are people we met on cruises, friends we continue to cruise with. I like to pack computer generated address labels to make it easy to send postcards.
I read this tip in several cruise reviews. Send a postcard to yourself. I have postcards from all over the world with the local stamps that I have sent to our home during each of our exotic cruises. I have a stamp from the CCCP - that was the USSR- years ago. Its fun and you will always get a chuckle when the post card catches up to you after you are home.
It is a smart thing to bring along your cell phone (which means the charger too). If you incur delays you can call your Travel Agent and have her call the cruise lines. You can make phone calls while you're leaving port on the ship, and in some islands. The islands I have found to be cell phone friendly are the Bahamas, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Grand Cayman. It's great for phoning for a cab to, advice travel europe children , the airport, or getting in touch with friends when you disembark. On the islands that do provide service you won't have to wait in long lines (pay phones on the islands is where the crew keeps in touch with home), advice travel europe children , . It's just a handy thing to do and would be invaluable in an emergency.
Please don't forget a good sunscreen if you are going to the Caribbean. If you are from the colder climes and have not seen the sun in awhile you will NEED it. Even in Alaska you have to wear a sunscreen.
Lastly, don't forget your camera. Put this in your carry on, do not pack it. I have a friend that went to Hawaii and video taped a wedding, packed the camera in her luggage and it was stolen on the way home. If it is digital camera take extra memory cards since you will be taking lots of pictures and the cards are more expensive once you leave home.
Follow this advice and you will have a very enjoyable and comfortable, advice travel europe children , cruise.
Happy Cruising!

Not just any "cheapest-you-can-find",, travel advice australia , travel advice australia , travel insurance, but a policy that will take good care of you should the unforeseen occur.

Types of travel insurance vary from company to company and it is well worth your while to spend some considerable time shopping around before committing to one policy. Remember, what is considered an acceptable risk by one insurer, may be excluded by another. Definitions of terms may also vary.

Take terrorism, for example. Most insurance policies will exclude acts of terrorism from being claimable events, however, the definition of what constitutes a terrorist act can vary between insurers. What one insurer may deem as an act of violence and therefore claimable, another insurer may deem terrorism and deny any claim.

In this age of terrorism threats and war-torn nations, travellers should always heed governmental advice as to whether or not travel to certain regions is recommended. If deciding to travel to a country despite government warnings, it may be difficult to obtain travel insurance at all. If it is obtained, it will probably be very expensive and its cover fairly limited.

It is crucial that you understand exactly what is and isn't excluded from the policy before you sign on the dotted line. Indeed, being, travel advice australia , aware of the exclusions is, arguably, even more important than knowing what is covered. Get clear in your mind the insurer's definition of claimable and non-claimable events., travel advice australia , If at all possible, endeavour to get those definitions in writing.

Get the, travel advice australia , language right. Ask as many questions as it takes to know exactly where you stand. Remember, the only dumb questions are ones that haven't been asked yet and given a voice. If going through a broker or agent, double check with the insurer if uncertain of their answers. It's wise to remember too, that no insurance policy is going to cover you for every single thing that could possibly happen on your holiday. The prudent traveller will ensure, however, that what he or she needs to be covered for will be.

For example, does the policy allow you to participate in "adventure activities"? If you're going bungee jumping in New Zealand or white-water rafting in Canada, make sure your insurer knows about it and will cover you for accidents occurring during such activities.

Is your luggage excluded if left unattended? What does "left unattended", travel advice australia , mean? What if you leave it in a taxi? What if you walk two metres from it to buy a chocolate bar from a vending machine?

It's a good idea to also familiarise yourself, travel advice australia , with claims procedures before departing so as to avoid the "paper frenzy" in the event of an accident. Some policies have a time limit for reporting claims. In some cases, the incident must be reported to local authorities within twenty-four hours in order to claim.

Be aware too that some countries may not recognise all insurance companies. This could pose a problem if hospitalisation is required. If the insurer isn't recognised in that country you may not get hospital treatment. Make sure that the insurer has a global reputation.

It's very expensive to be injured overseas. For instance, medical, travel advice australia , evacuation from the United States to Australia can cost anything from $80,000.00 upwards, travel advice australia , . If a stay in hospital is required, the bill could run into hundreds of thousands of dollars. And you thought shopping in Beverly Hills would be fun….

It's also dangerous to be injured overseas, particularly in countries where medical facilities may not be as well equipped as at home. Again, the evacuation costs can run into many thousands of dollars - and no insurance means a lifetime of debt.

Travelling without the right travel insurance is like walking a tightrope without a net. Sure, it can be done, but one tiny slip and it's too late for "If only"s. And chances are, it will be your loved ones at home who will mortgage their houses, cash in their superannuation and face considerable financial hardship in order to bring you back to the fold.

All in all, travel insurance is one thing you should definitely not leave home without!
